It sounds like science fiction, but the technology has already left the lab and is knocking on the door of the consumer market. What RF Sensing Actually Is
The air around you is already saturated with radio waves. Your WiFi router, cell towers, every wireless gadget in the house — all of it is pumping out signals nonstop. Those signals bounce off walls, reflect off human bodies, and pass through objects, changing ever so slightly along the way.

In the US, wiretapping statutes hinge on “communications”; in the EU, GDPR turns on “personal data” processing — and it is genuinely unclear how either applies to a passive read of ambient signal.
You cannot exactly ban it, either. It runs on commodity parts, and the legitimate demand — defense, elder care — is real. So the fight will not be about prohibition. It will be about how you enforce transparency and consent: mandatory disclosure that sensing is active, hard limits on storing and reusing the data.
