The seductive part of AI replacement is the instant cut to labor costs. It lands directly on the quarterly numbers. For an executive, that’s a hard figure to argue with.
The trouble is that the loss doesn’t show up on the same timeline.

When the AI hallucinates, they catch it: “no, that’s not it.” They offload the repetitive math and data wrangling to the machine and spend their own attention on the calls that matter. That’s AI used well.
Strip out the veteran and keep only the AI, and you’ve deleted the one person who could check the output. The AI can be wrong and no one will know. AI creates value when it amplifies people, not when it replaces them. Ford ran that sequence backward, and paid for it.
